It has been a long while since I put finger to keyboard to write a journal entry here. What has happened in the intervening weeks, you may well ask.
For a starter, there is a new short story available on Recycled Words. We Need to Talk features zombies, action, and a killer climax. You can read it (completely free) right here on this site.
There has been plenty of writing, some of it successful. I have been following the advice I have read on the internet and I have developed a story submission plan. As a story is rejected by a magazine, then I already have an idea of where it is going to go next. Off it goes, and I wait for the next response to arrive.
I’m sure I’m not alone in getting at least as many (oh come on! it’s definitely more) rejections as I am getting acceptances. But then, there are a lot of talented people out there and only a certain-sized market for all these great stories. If I believe in the stories and I keep plugging away, I’m sure they will find a home eventually.
And the good news is that there are a large number of different tales reverberating around in my head. Far too many, if I’m honest. The challenge for me at the moment is in finding the time in my days to get them out of my head and onto a page. The one thing I can be certain of is that no one will read them if they stay locked up in there.
On which note, I am off to research a new story. And by research, I mean read some books. It’s a tough life…
